Mariama Duncan LCSW-R

I believe that we experience our greatest pains and joys in the context of our relationships with others.  In my approach to therapy, I create a safe, supportive environment to foster insight by exploring emerging patterns and themes. With increased awareness, clients find they have more options for meeting their life goals and change becomes possible.  I also believe that change needs support and practice.  I work toward building a collaborative relationship with clients to assist them in creating self-directed, growth-oriented change.  I am warm, creative, thoughtful and direct.

I have worked with adolescents and their families since 2001 around issues of:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • trauma
  • difficulties separating from family of origin
  • bullying and socialization difficulties

My work takes inspiration from a variety of therapeutic approaches to create an individualized plan for treatment.   I received my Master of Social Work from NYU in 2001 and I have had the pleasure of working in mental health with ethnically diverse populations since 1998.
